ur·ban·ize
1: to cause to take on urban characteristics
2: to impart an urban way of life
These photographs are dedicated to our world’s cities.
In 1800, only 3 percent of the world's population lived in urban areas.
It is estimated that by 2030 60 percent of the world population will
be urbanized. Currently, there are more than 400 cities with over one
million people.
Every city develops its own unique characteristics based
on the history and culture of its inhabitants. Over time
these inhabitants have created
an unnatural biosphere of concrete and asphalt where few other species
can survive. The trees and grass sprinkled about are there perhaps to
serve as a reminder of our ancestors’ rural days.
